SEGi University and Colleges celebrate International Happiness Day 2023 with the Joy Love Happiness Project, a student-led initiative to promote good health and well-being in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 3. The project was a collaboration between students from SEGi University and Colleges in Johor Bahru and Subang Jaya, who had previously only interacted online due to the pandemic.
The project’s head, Carolyn Choo, also the Head of Early Childhood at SEGi, urged students to continue organising similar projects within their early childhood settings. She emphasised the importance of community involvement, where young children could learn about the needs of their community and promote healthy well-being for all ages.
The Joy Love Happiness Project 2023 included various activities and initiatives, including promoting kindness and gratitude, raising awareness about mental health issues, and encouraging healthy eating habits. The project aimed to raise awareness about the importance of happiness and well-being, essential for leading a fulfilling life.
According to the World Happiness Report 2021, Malaysia ranks 81st out of 149 countries in terms of happiness, down from its 2020 ranking of 82nd. However, the report highlights that Malaysia has made significant progress in improving the well-being of its citizens over the years.
The Joy Love Happiness Project is a step towards building a happier and healthier community. As the world continues to face unprecedented challenges, initiatives like these help promote positive mental health and well-being, which are crucial for leading a healthy and fulfilling life.
The Project is an excellent example of how students can come together to promote good health and well-being in their communities. It also highlights the importance of SDG 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages.
