Students Take On Zoo Negara to Support Sustainable Development Goals

SEGi College Subang Jaya’s School of MPU organised an event called “Zoo Negara: Into the Wild” on 11 March 2023 at Zoo Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

The student volunteers assisted the animal keepers in providing daily care for the animals, including exhibit cleaning, food preparation and animal behavioural enrichment activities. They also learned how to take care of the animals and how important clean surroundings are for the animals.

Volunteering at Zoo Negara is a great way to learn about and care for animals. By organising this voluntary work, the students were exposed to a wide range of experiences that they would not have been able to obtain in the classroom. The students had fun in the zoo engaging with the animals and were grateful to be able to make a difference.

This is part of SEGi’s initiative to be part of United Nation’s sustainable development goal (SDG) initiative – SDG 15 – Life on Land. It aims to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss. Events like “Zoo Negara: Into the Wild” can help raise awareness among students about the importance of protecting our planet’s biodiversity and preserving our natural resources.

Through volunteering at Zoo Negara, the students not only gained hands-on experience in caring for animals but also learned about the importance of conserving natural habitats and promoting sustainable practices. By supporting SDG 15, we can help protect life on land and ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for all living beings.
