SEGi diploma students become technopreneurs on Shopee

On 27 April 2022, eight shortlisted groups of students from SEGi College’s branches in Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak presented their business journeys on Shopee to a panel of judges which consisted of industry members and academicians.  On this panel were panel Dr Derek Watson (Associate Professor from University of Sunderland), Mr Jerry Hang (Founder of Moden KOL) and Mr Chong (Head of WellPlay Gaming).

These students, all enrolled in the Technopreneurship course, were required to form a group with four members each to set up a store on the Shopee platform and sell the products of their choice during the semester that started in January and ended in April this year.    During this three-month period, with guidance from Shopee and Moden KOL, they had to go through a process of choosing products to sell on the platform, designing the store with eye-catching contents, promoting themselves through live-streaming videos, and taking orders and arranging delivery to customers.

The main objective of this assignment was to bring our industry partners into the classroom, so that our students will have a real-life business experience on top of what they have learnt from the books and lectures.  This initiative also gave our students more exposure to the online business industry.

During the presentation, these eight groups of students gave their presentations of the strategies they used and the outcomes of their the sales drives.  The panel of judges gave their valuable advice to the students to allow them to improve in their entrepreneurship journey.

The winners from were from the SEGi College Penang team, namely Melina Yeoh, Kah Mei, Yeoh Fu Xiang and Tan Ming Yen.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our industry partners, Moden KOL and Shopee, for mentoring the students with our academic team, and our panel of judges for their invaluable feedback.
