SEGi’s photography outing: Where theory meets reality for creative multimedia students

In a world where visual content reigns supreme, the art of photography is more important than ever. Recognising the significance of practical experience, SEGi’s Creative Multimedia Programme recently organised an exciting photography outing, providing students with a tangible taste of the photography industry while integrating the real world into their classroom experience.

Led by the enthusiastic and experienced Yeeni Ayu Rosita, a dedicated lecturer within the programme, this outing aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Taking place at the picturesque Kuching Waterfront area, a perfect canvas for budding photographers, the students had the privilege of fine-tuning their photography skills in a real-world setting.

What made this outing truly unique was the array of devices at the students’ disposal. They were given the opportunity to experiment with both professional photography equipment and smartphones, exposing them to the latest industry tools and encouraging them to appreciate the art of photography in all its forms.

The dual use of professional cameras and smartphones allowed students to understand the versatility of modern photography tools. They learned that a great photo can be taken with the device in their pockets just as easily as with high-end equipment. This understanding is invaluable in a world where photography is accessible to almost everyone.

The fusion of classroom learning with real-world experience is an investment in the future of these budding photographers. Beyond technical skills, students gained confidence and adaptability vital in a rapidly changing industry. According to statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for photographers are projected to grow 6% from 2020 to 2030. This outing ensures that SEGi students are well-prepared to navigate the diverse demands of the photography world.

As technology continues to evolve, students who are proficient in both traditional and smartphone photography will be at an advantage. The lessons learned during this outing will not only enhance their academic journey but also serve as building blocks for their professional careers.

SEGi believes that investing in real-world experiences is key to shaping well-rounded professionals. In an era where visual storytelling holds immense influence, these students are now better equipped to make their mark in the world of photography. They have learned to appreciate the beauty in every frame, whether captured through the lens of a professional camera or the screen of a smartphone. This outing was more than just a field trip; it was a stepping stone toward a future where these students will become the visual storytellers of tomorrow.
