In a recent educational endeavour, students pursuing the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (DIOSH) at SEGi College Sarawak embarked on an enlightening field trip to Asteel Ajiya Sdn Bhd, a factory specialising in the production of tempered glass, nestled within the Demak Laut Industrial Park.
The primary objective of this excursion was to provide the DIOSH students with an immersive experience in understanding safety protocols and practices within the context of tempered glass production. It also aimed to familiarise them with the industrial workplace environment, emphasising the importance of safety and health measures within a factory setting.
This hands-on field trip was a powerful complement to the theoretical knowledge imparted through textbooks and classroom lectures. It allowed students to bridge the gap between theory and practical application, reinforcing their understanding of occupational safety and health practices.
According to the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), practical experiences and real-world exposure significantly enhance the effectiveness of safety and health education. This data reinforces the importance of field trips and hands-on experiences in occupational safety and health training.
This initiative at SEGi College Sarawak exemplifies the institution’s dedication to providing a comprehensive education that equips students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in their chosen fields. It underscores SEGi’s commitment to academic excellence and practical learning, preparing students for successful careers in occupational safety and health.
