Doctors needs MBA? the story of Dr Aznan.

SEGi College Subang Jaya is a proud purveyor of quality education for one and all. Our list of students range from those freshly out of high school to professionals who have already attained commendable standings in their careers yet are compelled to upgrade their qualifications to go even higher. This article showcases an instance of the latter.

Dr Mohamad Aznan Bin Shuhaili is a general surgeon who sub-specialises in obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and gastrointestinal surgery. He earned his Master of Surgery from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2016 and graduated as a surgeon, after having obtained his undergraduate degree from University Malaya in 2007.

What drives a medical surgeon who is also a group managing director of several companies companies to take up the SEGi College/University of Sunderland Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme? We asked Dr Adnan why he chose SEGi. “I believe this great programme will give me the leverage I want to succeed in building my own businesses in the medical line. My goals and aspirations go beyond surgery and medicine. I like this programme because it’s so very interesting and engaging, pushing me to learn more and gain more knowledge and skills. I also really like how the modules are all well-arranged and systematic.”

Dr Aznan is a recipient of multiple awards, including the Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang MARA 2007, the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang 2011, and the Anugerah Travel Grant for Young Bariatric Surgeon  Asia Pacific 2017.

Dr Aznan credits SEGi for teaching him things he would otherwise not have known. He says that SEGi’s MBA classes have given him invaluable insights on financial control and management, amongst other things, which have made him think of the practice of medicine in a different light, especially in terms of communication and the management of his surgical team.
