Creating possibilities for homeless animals

SEGi College Subang Jaya’s School of MPU and Language recently collaborated with Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue (MIAR) to conduct a fundraising project and volunteer work for stray animals. Our Students of Community Service organised the event for dogs in dog shelters.

The screening and selection of animal shelters were evaluated according to each shelter’s current situation. MIAR shelter was selected due to the following aspects: accommodating a larger number of stray dogs, requiring help in volunteering assistance, and facing a shortage of the canines’ necessities. The event aimed to raise awareness of the current situations of dog shelters and the responsibilities of having a pet. The ultimate objective of the event was to spread awareness of the importance of dog adoption to prevent dog abandonment.

Thirty-eight donors contributed a total of RM2,045 to this fundraising project. Student volunteers prepared food for the homeless dogs, cleaned up the shelter areas, and most importantly, demonstrated their willingness to learn how to care for animals and help the stray, abandoned and neglected animals in our community.
