Students learn about Borneo’s history and culture at the Borneo Culture Museum

The Borneo Culture Museum, located in Kuching, Sarawak, is a must-see for anyone interested in learning about Borneo’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. The museum displays traditional arts and crafts of local tribes, giving visitors a unique opportunity to learn about their way of life. On 10 March 2023, 15 students were sponsored by their college to attend a field trip to the museum. 

The visit began with a warm welcome from the museum’s friendly staff, who introduced the students to the museum’s mission and objectives. The students were then led to the first exhibit, which featured intricate beadwork, weaving, and woodcarvings by local tribes. They discovered that these crafts are an important part of the tribes’ daily lives and culture, and that they require a high level of skill and patience. 

The museum also has exhibits about Borneo’s history, such as its colonial past and the impact of modernization on traditional cultures. Furthermore, the museum exhibits contemporary Dayak culture and how it continues to evolve and adapt. 

The students gained a better understanding and appreciation for Borneo culture and way of life as a result of their visit to the Borneo Culture Museum. They were impressed by the museum’s efforts to preserve and promote local culture, as well as to educate visitors about the value of cultural diversity and respect.
