SEGi College Sarawak recently organised their first ever virtual convocation for the Class of 2020 and 2021. The virtual convocation was held on 10th November 2021 on the Zoom online platform. The ceremony was attended by graduates, dignitaries and faculty members, at the same time witnessed by parents, family members and friends.
A total of 335 graduands were conferred certificates, diplomas, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The graduates were from diverse fields of studies such as Business and Accountancy, Information Technology, Law, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Hospitality. Twenty students received first class awards from the University of Sunderland programmes and four students from the Master of Business Administration programme received distinction awards.
The virtual convocation ceremony was opened by the Chief Executive of SEGi College Sarawak, YB Datu Haji Putit Matzen at 10:00am and was followed by a welcome speech by the Chief Executive Officer of SEGi Group of Colleges, Ms Stella Lau Kah Wai.
Each year, the college will recognise students with outstanding academic achievements. Claudine Tang from the Diploma in Law and Voon Yien Khai from BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance 3+0, University of Sunderland, were given the Best Student Awards 2020. The Best Student Awards 2021 went to Yong Jia Jia from the Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Vivian Seah Jia Yee from BA (Hons) Business and Management 3+0, University of Sunderland.
Claudine Tang was the valedictorian of the Class of 2020 and 2021. Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, she said, “The vision of our college and its institutional excellence has made us what we are. This college has given me a direction to move forward in life and for that, I am extremely thankful from the bottom of my heart”.
The virtual convocation concluded with the closing proclamation by the Principal of SEGi College Sarawak, Dr Susie Lau Meng Ching at 11:30am.
