Real world skills guarantee jobs for teachers

According to Malaysia’s education ministry, there are 87,574 registered special educational needs (SEN) children with 10.8% in early childhood education. A percentage that seems low, that is an alarming 9,458 young SEN children who are away from their customised learning environment due to Covid-19; putting pressure on early childhood teachers to help integrate students and parents to a cookie-cutter learning plan in the virtual classroom.

The challenge is not just for Special Education Needs children to adapt to a completely new learning method, but also for parents juggling between work-at-home mandates and a teaching role at home. Teachers become the critical contact point for parents and child to adjust to the new normal but with lack of experience and certification to guide, parents often feel alone.

While theories form the foundation of successful teaching, SEGi’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Psychology programmes focus on the practical which includes building the right emotional capacity to deal with parent, child, and classroom challenges. Early Childhood Education students will be equipped with the emotional, theoretical, and practical skills to cater to a range of learning abilities that will secure employability anywhere.
