SEGi College Sarawak’s students taking the Diploma in Hotel Management had their first physical practical exam in Housekeeping Management on 14 April 2023 at The Waterfront Hotel Kuching. The six students were divided into three teams of two students each to complete the exam, assessed by the Housekeeping Management Team from The Waterfront Hotel Kuching.
The purpose of this exam is to test the students on their practical skills and techniques as a housekeeper. They were required to implement and identify the standard operating procedure (SOP) for making the guest bedrooms and bathrooms, and manage and avoid mistakes in making decisions under the housekeeping department, thus demonstrating their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in housekeeping.
This is the first time that SEGi College Sarawak’s Hospitality students have had their practical exam beyond the classroom walls and where the students were assessed by an external examiner. The marking criteria for the exam consists of proper grooming as housekeeper, cleaning the guestrooms according to the SOP, and converting the guestroom from vacant dirty (VD) to vacant clean (VC) and ready for guests. Before the practical exam began, the examiner was kind enough to remind the students of the SOP for cleaning the guestrooms.
