A group of second-year students from SEGi College Sarawak’s Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology programme visited the Department of Pathology at the Sarawak General Hospital.
The two sections of the department of interest during this visit were Cytology and Histopathology, both being subjects that the students are taking this semester.
The officers in charge of both sections brought the students to tour around the laboratory. They explained the important and roles of each part of the laboratory. This visit to the Cytology and Histopathology sections allowed the students to learn the process of collecting real patients’ specimens.
The officers also gave the students a chance to observe cytological slides under the light microscope. Most of the students commented the industrial visit provided them a clearer understanding of the operations inside a laboratory.
