IT students dive into big data at 3D Trick Art Museum

A group of School of Information Technology students from SEGi College Penang, accompanied by their lecturer Amizar, visited 3D Trick Art Museum Penang. This educational visit was organized under Big Data Technology course, aimed at encouraging students to measure, and observe phenomena in a real data analysis process.  Big Data in museums focuses on developing methods and techniques to identify new and uncover hidden, important, and useful information, patterns, clusters, and relationships among large sets of museum data.

In completing this visit students need to consider both theoretical perceptions and relevant practices in current Big Data projects in museums. Hence, data analytics and data mining processes comprise relatively new fields of research and inquiry.

According to Rebecca Carlsson, 2020, Microsoft partnering with British Museum has been able to analyse the way visitors interact with the 800,000 feet of gallery space by carry out such analysis was successfully using big data machine learning as a method of data analysis.

Therefore, in this course Big Data Technology is the hope for students in School of Information Technology SCPG who are considering starting to understand several case studies from museums operating Big Data projects, which illustrate problems, prerequisites, and potential.
