Edu-Tourism – experiential learning at WHOLE Penang 2020

World Hospitality, Lifestyle, and Entertainment Exhibition & Conference (WHOLE PENANG 2020), was the first hybrid event and it was all set and scheduled from September 10th to 12th, 2020 at the SPICE Arena and Convention Centre. WHOLE 2020 is an exhibition and conference which showcased all components related to the hospitality industry which covering key pillars such as accommodation & lodging; food, beverage, food technology & equipment; lifestyle & entertainment; travel & tourism and wellness & medical tourism.

On 12th September 2020, 49 students and 3 lecturers from School of Hospitality and Tourism, SEGi College Penang was invited to the events. Students has been given opportunities to participate in Young Chef & Hotelier Programme in collaboration with StudyPenang. Aside of that, they also participate in several forums related with hospitality Industry.

During the event, our Diploma in Culinary Art student, Tan Gidesco was invited to join the live cooking lesson with Chef Joshua Liew, the Executive Chef of St Giles Wembley Hotel. Audience has been taught to prepare a Kadazandusun’s signature dish – Hivana (raw fish salad). The entire cooking demonstration were assisted by Chef Joshua and his helpers. This is definitely a great experience and exposure for our culinary students!

WHOLE 2020 was the first event which participated by our students after Post MCO. From this event, students had experienced how the hybrid event was organized and they had gathered a lot of information related with the attractions at the exhibition booth. Besides that, many of the students also won attractive prizes such as entrance tickets and cash while they attending the forums.

Lastly, we believe that by attending events as such, it is definitely one of the best tools that we can use to provide every student with real-world experiences!
