SEGi College Subang Jaya, one of the colleges under the SEGi University & Colleges, hosted the Student Resilience Forum 2022, which attracted more than 200 teachers from Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah (PPD) Petaling Perdana.
The event took place at SEGi University and Colleges’ Subang Jaya campus and was officiated by the Deputy of PPD Petaling Perdana for the Learning Sector, Yasmin Kamaruddin and SEGi College Subang Jaya principal, Calvin Chan Yee Yuan. It was attended by academicians, delegates, teachers, members of the media and representatives from SEGi University and Colleges.
“I’d like to record my sincere gratitude to Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Petaling Perdana for their recognition and endorsement of this very meaningful project,” Chan said.
The forum aims to help youth to develop emotional resilience. The topics covered were on the importance of having a positive classroom, the psychological impact of puberty on adolescence, how to inspire and ignite student passion, as well as cultivating a positive school environment.
“At SEGi, we believe every student can succeed. All it takes is putting the right people in the right environment to do ‘The Best In You, Made Possible’,” said Chan.
Most participants found the forum to be beneficial and managed to gain new knowledge. They can further understand teenagers’ characteristics and look forward to generating more positive vibes in schools.
Some participants can reflect on themselves and understand more about their personality via Personality MC. From there, participants can look at how they respond to students in the classroom and their parents.
“SEGi also added value of gamification, where students learn strategies related to their business studies and other disciplines. We try to put ourselves into students’ shoes and make learning fun for them,” Chan expressed.
Chan added most people with mental health issues often suffer in silence and do not seek professional treatment because of the misconceptions and stigma surrounding the issues.
“Mental health awareness is an important initiative to improve understanding of mental health conditions and increase access to healthcare for those who need it, such as students, teachers, stakeholders and principals. I would like to congratulate and thank the working committee, and my psychology team, who have all worked very hard to bring this project to fruition. Most importantly, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all teachers who supported in bringing this project to life,” Chan concluded.
