Why Joining a Club Might Be the Best Decision You Make in College

SEGi pulsed with energy on 26 February 2025 as the Student Lounge transformed into a vibrant hub of activity for the annual Club Recruitment Drive. Organised by the 18th Student Representative Council under the leadership of Nur Fatin Azwa Binti Zaki, the event welcomed 60 participants eager to explore the diverse co-curricular opportunities available across campus. From academic societies to cultural groups, the initiative encouraged students to step beyond the classroom and into dynamic communities that shape leadership, collaboration, and personal growth.

Student clubs and societies play a critical role in holistic education, nurturing essential soft skills that prepare graduates to thrive in a competitive, evolving global workforce. According to the World Economic Forum, skills such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability are among the top qualities employers seek in new hires. The Club Recruitment Drive supports this vision by empowering students to find their voices, connect with others, and contribute meaningfully to their campus environment.

The event was also a powerful step toward promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity within the student body. By providing access to a wide range of student-led organisations, it enabled participants from all backgrounds to engage equally in shaping their college experience. Research by UNESCO highlights that equitable access to extracurricular engagement can significantly reduce social gaps and foster a sense of belonging in educational institutions.

As SEGi College Subang Jaya’s students navigated from booth to booth, they were not just signing up for clubs—they were stepping into networks that build confidence, inspire purpose, and drive action. Events like these demonstrate how student leadership and institutional support can work hand-in-hand to create a vibrant, inclusive campus culture that mirrors the values of equity and empowerment.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
