Why Esports Belong in Every Campus Conversation

SEGi levelled up its student engagement efforts with the Tekken 7 Tournament on 20 March 2025, bringing together 15 passionate gamers for an intense showdown in the campus E-sports Room. Organised by the Esports Club under the leadership of Syed Ommid Shah, the event was more than just a battle for victory — it was a celebration of digital skill, inclusion, and community through the lens of competitive gaming.

The tournament reflected the growing significance of esports in education and youth development. Globally, the esports industry is projected to reach over USD 1.8 billion by 2025, with a rapidly expanding audience and professional scene. But beyond viewership, esports fosters critical soft skills such as strategic thinking, teamwork, and stress management — essential competencies in both academic and real-world settings.

This initiative also championed inclusivity and accessibility. As esports transcends physical limitations, it provides a powerful platform where students of diverse backgrounds and abilities can compete on equal ground. The event offered a safe and welcoming space for gamers to connect, grow, and showcase their talents, reinforcing the importance of equitable participation across student life.

By integrating esports into the student experience, SEGi College Subang Jaya reinforces its commitment to evolving education beyond traditional formats. Digital literacy, community building, and the ability to think fast under pressure are no longer optional — they are part of preparing graduates for the modern world.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
