They Didn’t Just Learn Health Psychology. They Lived It

SEGi’s APS4063 Health Psychology students recently made waves in campus life with their vibrant event, Wellness Wave: Empowering Minds & Bodies, held on 10 April 2025 at the Edumetro campus. Designed to encourage positive behavioural change and promote holistic well-being, the event combined academic theory with real-world application, drawing in around 35 participants comprising students and faculty members. Through this initiative, students didn’t just learn about health psychology — they lived it, applying core psychological concepts to create meaningful community engagement.

The event transformed the Student Lounge into an interactive health hub, where participants explored booths on mental and physical well-being, each brought to life through games and hands-on activities. These booths, though fewer in number due to a smaller class size, successfully sustained attention and sparked conversations about self-care, resilience, and sustainable health behaviours. From stress management tips to physical health education, every station was rooted in proven psychological models, turning classroom learning into impactful action.

Global data shows that mental and physical well-being are deeply intertwined. According to the World Health Organization, non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular issues and diabetes — often driven by lifestyle behaviours — account for over 70% of global deaths. Meanwhile, mental health conditions are a leading cause of disability worldwide, with one in four people expected to be affected at some point in their lives. These statistics reinforce the need for youth-driven initiatives like Wellness Wave, which promote early prevention and sustainable wellness practices.

SEGi College Subang Jaya’s students behind the event not only demonstrated academic excellence but also honed critical soft skills like leadership, collaboration, and public communication. Feedback from attendees confirmed the initiative’s success in educating and inspiring lifestyle change while offering a fun and safe space to engage with often-overlooked health issues.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
