SEGi lends a hand to refugees

The First Teacher Project is a collaboration between and SEGi College Subang Jaya’s Psychology Department and the ElShaddai Refugee Learning Centre (ERLC). The project aims to train refugee mothers as the first teachers for their children.

Thirteen psychology students participated in this project to teach refugee parents to teach basic literacy to their children. Three of our students received the Best Teacher Award in the First Teacher Project. They were Yunitha a/p Selva Ratnam, Tasiran Saadahtul Abadiah and Darren Chew Hung Zhen.

It was a life-changing experience for the students because they had work closely with these refugee families to provide a better future for their next generation. Some of our students continue to volunteer in developing these refugee’s welfare.
