In an effort to raise an awareness of the importance of reading books, SEGi College Subang Jaya’s students in the School of Compulsory Subjects and Language organised a book donation drive to collect used books, which they presented to the Selangor State Library (PPAS) in Shah Alam on 20 October 2022.
For this community service, the students collected 220 appropriate books on different subjects. When they and the books arrived at the library, the students were welcomed and given a brief introduction, after which the books were put through a selection process to determine their suitability. The library management was very kind to give the students lunch. In the afternoon the students were assigned to assist with library logistics and book registration.
An interview was later conducted with the Deputy Director of PPAS, Ms Suzliana, and her colleague, Ms Zurianti, who thanked the volunteers for their initiative, shared their work experiences in the industry over the years, and talked about the types of books that have been accumulated in the library over the years.
The students hope that they can make a positive impact on society through this worthy cause of promoting reading in libraries.
