Productive field trip to Swiss-Garden Hotel & Residences Genting Highlands

On 3 November, SEGi College Subang Jaya’s School of Hospitality & Tourism Management students from Diploma in Hotel Management and Diploma in Restaurant management visited Swiss-Garden Hotel & Residences Genting Highlands Pahang.

The main objective of the visit, accompanied by lecturer Nathalie Joan Jules,  is to gain practical knowledge by observing the management and operation of the respective departments operating the hotel.

With this field trip, students can also determine the condition of tourism development during the endemic period, especially in Genting Highland.

The hotel’s Human Resources Manager, Chen Winnie, welcomed the group and was given a briefing on its history, background, and operations.

Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences, Genting Highlands property, is owned by the OSK Group and is managed directly by Swiss-Garden International Hotels, Resorts, Inns. With a total number of 561 rooms, it is one of the best places in Malaysia for rest, refreshment and rejuvenation from the most modern hustle and bustle, especially Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

It is a big privilege for students where they get the opportunity to learn and understand from the General manager Sonny Gan and Chen Winnie, has generously shared their expertise and experience in how they tackle challenges during endemics which include the slow return of foreign tourists, manpower shortage, higher wages to higher operating costs as overheads and prices of food and materials soar.

The students were taken on a tour of the hotel rooms and back-of-the-house offices to complete the visit. Chen also highlighted that they are looking for interns with attractive packages like provided accommodation (fully furnished hostel), daily meals including off-day meals and allowances.
