The vibrant spirit of Chinese New Year came to life as SEGi hosted a grand celebration on 20 February 2025, bringing together students, staff, and over 30 international agents for a day filled with cultural appreciation, festive cheer, and community engagement. The event reinforced SEGi’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, fostering an environment where cultural traditions are celebrated with enthusiasm and unity.
The festivities began with a thrilling Lion Dance performance at SEGi College Subang Jaya’s LG2, an age-old tradition symbolising prosperity, good fortune, and the warding off of negative energy. Research indicates that cultural events in educational institutions enhance social cohesion, boost student engagement, and strengthen multicultural understanding, making such celebrations an integral part of holistic education.
Following the performance, guests proceeded to the Level 6 Banquet Hall for a lively luncheon featuring performances, music, and interactive games. A highlight of the event was the Best Dressed Competition, where attendees showcased their creativity through traditional and modern Chinese New Year outfits, embodying the rich heritage and evolving fashion expressions of the season. With over 1.5 billion people worldwide celebrating Chinese New Year, such events serve as powerful reminders of the importance of cultural heritage in global communities.
A series of lucky draws and performances kept the excitement going, while an address by SEGi’s Principal, AP Dr Irene Tan, highlighted the institution’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity, cultural appreciation, and a globally engaged student body. Studies show that institutions that integrate cultural engagement in student life see a 30% improvement in student satisfaction and well-being, further proving the impact of such initiatives on holistic education.
With the New Year symbolising renewal, growth, and prosperity, this celebration was more than just an event—it was a reflection of SEGi’s dedication to embracing traditions, strengthening community ties, and fostering meaningful global connections. As education continues to transcend borders, cultural events like these serve as bridges that unite people from diverse backgrounds in a shared spirit of celebration and learning.
