Students from the Data Communication and Network programme at SEGi College Sarawak gained meaningful career exposure through the Alumni Insight: Navigating Growth from Technical Roles to Future Goals session, held via teleconferencing on 30 March 2026.
The session featured SEGi College Sarawak alumnus Alif Aiman, who shared his personal journey from campus learning to real-world technical experience. Attended by 10 students and one lecturer, the talk created a focused and engaging space for students to better understand how their current studies can lead to future opportunities in networking and IT.
Drawing from his experience in networking operations, troubleshooting, and internship exposure with external companies, Alif gave students a practical view of what the industry expects. His sharing helped connect classroom learning with actual workplace situations, showing students how technical knowledge can be applied beyond assignments and examinations.
A key part of the session focused on professional growth. Alif encouraged students to strengthen their employability by pursuing recognised certifications such as Cisco CCNA and CompTIA Network+, as well as local upskilling opportunities through MDEC and HRD Corp. These pathways gave students a clearer picture of how additional credentials can support their career development in the digital and technology sectors.
More than just a career talk, the session helped students build confidence in their chosen field. By hearing directly from an alumnus who had once been in their position, participants were able to see a more realistic and achievable path towards their future careers.
The session concluded with students feeling more motivated to continue their studies, develop their technical skills, and take proactive steps towards building a career in networking and IT.
