Youth and Drug Abuse: A Timely Talk

SEGi College Sarawak invited Alimulia Bin Hj. En, an officer from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK Sarawak) and the founder of AKHAZ Counseling Psychological Center, to speak on drug abuse and its negative effects on youth on February 28, 2023. Thirty Diploma in Psychology students attended the hour-long talk and gained valuable exposure to the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of avoiding drug consumption.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) World Drug Report 2021, drug use is a global problem affecting millions worldwide. The National Anti-Drug Agency in Malaysia reported a total of 25,930 drug abuse cases in 2020, with the majority of the cases involving youths aged 19-39.

During the presentation, Alimulia emphasised the negative effects of drug abuse on the mind and body, particularly with drugs such as methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and others. He also emphasised the importance of drug education in educating children and young people about the dangers of all drugs, legal or illegal.

The talk at SEGi College Sarawak is timely and relevant, as the youth are our country’s future successors. Instilling in young people the attitude of avoiding drug consumption can significantly reduce drug abuse cases and build a healthier and safer society.

Alimulia’s presentation provided valuable insight into the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of drug education for youth. It reminds us that drug abuse is a serious problem affecting individuals, families, and society. To prevent drug abuse and its negative effects on youth, it is critical to continue educating and raising awareness about the issue.
