The Leo Club came together for a meaningful cause through the Bark Park Borneo Food Donation & Cleaning Service Project held on 13 September 2025. The initiative brought students to Bark Park Borneo and HASS Kennels to support animal welfare, contribute to the local community, and foster awareness of the importance of compassion towards animals.
SEGi College Sarawak students donated 15 bags of rice, dog food, and toys to the shelter, providing essential supplies to support the well-being of the dogs. Beyond donations, the students rolled up their sleeves to clean the facilities and engaged directly with the animals by walking, bathing, and playing with them in the pool. These hands-on contributions not only improved the shelter environment but also gave the animals meaningful interaction, which is proven to reduce stress and improve their social behaviour.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 200 million stray dogs worldwide are in need of care and protection. Many shelters struggle with limited resources, making community-driven initiatives critical for ensuring the survival and well-being of abandoned animals. The students’ involvement demonstrated how small acts of service can have a lasting impact, while also instilling in them a sense of responsibility and empathy that extends beyond the classroom.
The project also aligned with the larger goal of nurturing socially responsible graduates. Community engagement is an integral part of holistic education, and through this experience, SEGi students not only contributed to animal welfare but also developed teamwork, leadership, and organisational skills. These qualities are vital for shaping future professionals who are committed to making a positive difference in society.
By participating in projects that support sustainability and compassion, SEGi reinforces the importance of aligning academic growth with societal and environmental responsibilities. The Bark Park Borneo initiative served as a reminder that community service extends to all living beings and that education can inspire meaningful contributions towards building a kinder, more inclusive world.
