The Central Bank Opened Its Doors. What Students Learned Will Stay With Them Forever.

SEGi took another meaningful step in bridging education with industry when a group of final-year business and accounting students visited Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Kuching on 28 July 2025. Organised by the Faculty of Business and Accounting, this academic visit offered 25 students and lecturers the opportunity to step inside Malaysia’s central bank and gain firsthand insights into the workings of monetary policy, financial regulation, and economic stability—realities often confined to textbooks.

Designed to connect classroom theory with professional practice, the visit immersed students in a structured programme led by BNM personnel, featuring knowledge-sharing presentations, a guided tour, and interactive Q&A sessions. With carefully curated content and questions that encouraged critical thinking, the session sparked lively engagement, even rewarding students who answered correctly with gifts—transforming passive observation into dynamic learning. These thoughtful interactions reflect SEGi College Sarawak’s focus on student-centred education, where curiosity, confidence, and communication are nurtured in every experience.

This visit is more than an academic field trip. It’s part of a broader institutional commitment to producing industry-ready graduates, especially in high-demand sectors like finance and banking. According to Malaysia’s Department of Statistics, finance and insurance contributed RM197.8 billion to the GDP in 2023, underscoring the sector’s importance to national growth. By exposing students to central banking systems and career pathways in economics and finance, the visit helps learners make informed, ambitious decisions about their futures.

Students also observed the ethical and operational standards upheld by BNM, reinforcing the importance of professionalism, regulatory compliance, and lifelong learning. These values are key in shaping future leaders who not only thrive in their fields but also contribute meaningfully to national and global progress.

The initiative reflects SEGi’s active alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). By building opportunities that connect academic learning to real-world practice, SEGi empowers students to become both skilled professionals and socially responsible citizens.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4: Quality Education

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
