SEGi’s RTM Visit Enriches Student Broadcasting Knowledge

33 students and three lecturers from SEGi College Sarawak’s Faculty of Communication, Design and Information Technology (FOCADIT) embarked on an enlightening visit to Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) in Kuching. This two-hour visit provided invaluable insights into broadcasting and the advanced technologies that drive it, enriching the students’ educational experience.

Guided by RTM staff member Amran, the participants explored the radio office and television studio. They had the unique opportunity to handle video cameras in the studio, participate in a live broadcast session, and experience the excitement of being newsreaders. Observing the behind-the-scenes process where directors brainstormed for a sketch gave them a deeper understanding of the creative and technical aspects of television production.

The tour included visits to various radio rooms such as RED FM, WAI FM, and Sarawak FM (Sehati Sejiwa), allowing students to gain a feel for the operations in a radio broadcasting environment. They also explored the video control room and witnessed the intricate workings of the server rooms, providing a comprehensive look at the technical side of broadcasting.

One of the highlights of the visit was learning about internship opportunities at RTM. These internships cover various aspects of technology, including audio and video editing, application management, multimedia and graphics design, and electrical and electronic engineering. This offers SEGi students a fantastic chance to gain hands-on experience and see what it’s like to work in the broadcasting field.

RTM provided detailed information on how to apply for these internships, seeking students eager to learn and passionate about broadcasting. This opportunity is perfectly aligned with SEGi’s commitment to providing practical learning experiences that prepare students for their future careers.

The hands-on experiences and behind-the-scenes exposure provided during this visit were invaluable, offering students a comprehensive understanding of the broadcasting process. This educational trip to RTM enriched their knowledge and sparked greater interest in the field of media and communication, showcasing SEGi’s dedication to fostering practical and industry-relevant education.

SEGi’s involvement in this initiative underscores its commitment to aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education, decent work and economic growth, and industry innovation and infrastructure.
