SEGi’s Jackueline Scores with Robust Online Learning System

Many have perceived that the education industry would be seriously jeopardised by the COVID-19 pandemic since classrooms and textbook studies traditionally require face-to-face interaction.

But the adage, “learning is a lifelong process”, also means that learning continues regardless of the circumstances. Hence SEGi University & Colleges have risen from the challenge by incorporating a strong and robust online education system, one that is safe to say, pandemic proof.

According to SEGi’s BA (Hons) Business and Management top achiever Jackueline Ong Yuen Ching, the bulk of her course at SEGi College Sarawak was conducted online.

“Some of my friends, I’ve only met them in person during the graduation ceremony”, she said, adding that she has come to prefer online instead of a physical classroom.

Ong said it was easier for her to focus during an online class as she could rewind the video at her leisure, unlike a physical one.

“The lecturers have been very responsive to my questions and messages”, she said, although she recommends sending them via WhatsApp instead of email.

Ong stated that her favourite subject is Management Leading Change, which happens to be taught by her favourite lecturer Mr Harikanan. She said Harikanan was quick to reply to her questions, and would even do so late into the night.

He also had the ability to present and teach the lessons in a very clear manner, which aided in her understanding. Ong further attributed her success to her study method, in which she practises her lessons right after class to improve the absorption rate.

Being punctual to class certainly helps, although Ong observed that quite a few students from her course who came late. When asked why she chose SEGi, Ong said she was following in her sister’s footsteps who did accounting at the same college.

Ong who is considering advancing her studies to Masters has this to say to students looking to emulate her success, “be confident, and also step out of your comfort zone to accept new things”.
