SEGiANS HONOUR MOTHERS WITH GOURMET LUNCHEON

Mother’s Day is a cherished occasion celebrating the love, sacrifice, and dedication of mothers worldwide. It is a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering support and selfless devotion. On 24 April 2024, students from the Diploma in Hotel Management (DIHM) and Diploma in Culinary Arts (DICA) programmes at SEGi College Sarawak came together to organise a special four-course luncheon to honour the incredible women in their lives. Held at the Mock Restaurant on the college’s campus, the event was a heartwarming tribute to mothers, showcasing the students’ appreciation for their boundless love and support. 

The students went above and beyond in planning and preparing for the Mother’s Day lunch. They adorned the restaurant with colourful balloons and lights, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for the celebration. The menu was carefully curated, featuring a variety of delectable dishes such as seasoned samosa with plum wakame and SEGi-style Yangchow fried rice with spice chicken. This event not only celebrated Mother’s Day but also served as a final practical exam for the students, providing them with a real-world scenario to test their culinary and service skills. 

For students preparing for careers in hospitality, nothing compares to the hands-on experience of organising a real event. The Mother’s Day luncheon offered a unique opportunity for students to demonstrate their culinary and service prowess. Each dish prepared and every guest served helped hone their craft, equipping them with the confidence and expertise essential for success in the industry. This practical experience is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), by ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands of the hospitality industry.

The students’ dedication and hard work were evident in every aspect of the luncheon, from the beautifully decorated venue to the expertly prepared dishes.
