SEGi Students Share Perspectives on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in Live RTM Broadcast

Five students from SEGi College Sarawak’s School of Communication, Creative Arts, and Digital Media (SoCCD) recently took the spotlight on national television, sharing their insights on Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2024. The students participated in a live vox-pop segment aired on Radio Television Malaysia’s (RTM) TV1 channel on 11 October, offering youth perspectives on this important regional leadership role.

Guided by lecturer Siti Nuraziah binti Zainal Alam, the students confidently articulated their views on a range of critical topics, including regional diplomacy, economic integration, and cross-border collaboration within ASEAN. Their insightful commentary demonstrated a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the region and highlighted the potential of inclusive leadership strategies.

The segment, which aired at 3PM, provided a valuable platform for these young voices to contribute to the national conversation on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. Their perspectives resonated with viewers, reflecting the aspirations of the younger generation for a unified and progressive ASEAN.

Lecturer Siti Nuraziah played a crucial role in preparing the students for this public appearance, providing guidance and support to ensure they could express their views with clarity and confidence. This exemplifies the valuable role of academic mentorship in empowering students to engage in discussions on complex regional issues.

Adding further depth to the segment, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Srikumar Chakravarthi, Head of School Amir Heidi Askomi, and lecturer Siti Norlida binti Roslan also shared their perspectives on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. Their contributions underscored the significance of Malaysia’s leadership in promoting diplomatic cohesion and economic growth within the region.
