SEGi law unveils Malaysia’s policing history in jaw-dropping museum expedition

SEGi’s Faculty of Law recently orchestrated a remarkable field trip. On 16 August 2023, students, accompanied by SEGi Moot & Law Society advisors, delved into the Royal Malaysia Police Museum in Kuala Lumpur, unravelling the rich tapestry of the nation’s policing evolution.

Led by knowledgeable Sergeant Roszitah Abdul Wahab, the museum journey unfolded across three distinct galleries. Gallery A provided insights into policing during the early Malay Sultanate, showcasing the multifaceted role of the Temenggung, including his duties as a police chief and prison superintendent. Authentic Keris, bearing small bloodstains from this era, added a palpable historical touch.

Moving to Gallery B, the students explored the diverse police uniforms representing states such as Selangor, Perak, Sabah, and Sarawak. The vibrancy and elegance of these outfits offered a visual testament to the historical evolution of law enforcement.

Gallery C immersed the group in the challenging times of the Malayan Emergency, vividly recounting the sacrifices and struggles against Communist Terrorists. The meticulously curated displays, including actual Communist tools and weapons, transported participants back to a tumultuous era, evoking a mix of distress and joy.

The visit culminated in a group photography session and the presentation of a certificate of appreciation from SEGi’s Faculty of Law to the Royal Malaysia Police Museum officers. This insightful journey enriched the understanding of law students and underscored SEGi’s commitment to fostering immersive educational experiences. SEGi continues to shape well-rounded legal professionals with a deep appreciation for Malaysia’s law enforcement heritage through such initiatives.
