SEGi Equips Students with Vital Public Speaking Skills

SEGi College Sarawak recently hosted a dynamic one-day Presentation and Public-Speaking Skills Workshop led by Abdul Hadi bin Abdul Kadir, a distinguished member of Toastmasters International. The event aimed to address the growing need for graduates to master essential communication skills in today’s fast-paced and competitive job market. Recognising the importance of public speaking and presentations in building a successful career, SEGi organised this workshop as part of its commitment to providing students with the tools they need to excel professionally.

Abdul Hadi, who is a seasoned speaker and a champion of the Toastmasters’ Table Topics Contest, shared his insights on how effective communication can enhance personal credibility and career growth. The workshop offered students practical tips and hands-on activities to boost their confidence, enabling them to articulate ideas with clarity and persuasion. These skills are vital for students preparing to enter the workforce, as clear communication is a cornerstone of leadership and professional success.

In today’s globalised world, the ability to present and speak publicly is indispensable, not only in advancing one’s career but also in fostering leadership abilities. The workshop underscored how mastering these skills helps individuals navigate diverse environments, present compelling arguments, and build trust with their audience. According to a LinkedIn report, communication is one of the top soft skills sought by employers, highlighting its role in modern workplaces.

This initiative reflects SEGi’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application. By offering workshops that equip students with communication and leadership abilities, SEGi continues to nurture well-rounded graduates who are ready to take on global challenges. The impact of these initiatives resonates with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in relation to providing quality education and promoting lifelong learning.

Students who participated in the workshop came away with enhanced communication skills, greater self-confidence, and the knowledge that effective public speaking can open doors to a wide range of career opportunities. SEGi College Sarawak remains committed to providing students with the skills they need to succeed, ensuring they are prepared for the evolving demands of the workforce.
