Proof That Small Teams Can Make a Big Difference

SEGi College Sarawak’s Leo Club made a meaningful impact on 12 April 2025 through a heartfelt community service project at Wishesland Kuching, Jalan Crookshank. Bringing together 16 participants, including newly joined Leos from various programmes, the SEGi Leo Advisor, and Faculty Advisor Lion Vincent Cheong, the initiative demonstrated the spirit of service, leadership, and responsibility that SEGi strives to instil in all its students.

The project was aimed at fostering community well-being and environmental responsibility through the donation of essential food supplies and a collaborative cleaning effort across the Wishesland compound. Under the guidance of Lion Vincent Cheong and led by Organising Chairperson Leo Jap Jun Kang, the team meticulously cleaned the lobby, staying room, conference room, and outdoor areas to help create a safer, healthier environment for the community.

With global hunger affecting nearly 9.2% of the world’s population and urban sanitation remaining a critical issue, especially in growing communities, the importance of grassroots initiatives like these cannot be overstated. The team also donated essential supplies such as rice, cooking oil, biscuits, and Milo, contributing directly to food security and daily well-being for Wishesland’s beneficiaries.

Beyond delivering immediate aid, the project served as a platform to cultivate long-term civic engagement among students. According to the United Nations, good health and well-being (SDG 3) and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) are foundational to creating inclusive, resilient societies. By actively participating in such initiatives, SEGi students are not only giving back but are also preparing to be socially responsible leaders of tomorrow.

The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude expressed by the Wishesland management, who presented souvenirs as a token of appreciation to the SEGi Leo Club members. The success of this project reinforces SEGi’s commitment to nurturing compassionate, proactive, and globally aware graduates ready to shape a better world.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
