Leo Club SEGi College – blood donation campaign 1.0, organ donation & rice donation

By Mr Vincent Cheong, Lecturer, Faculty of Business, Accounting & IT

SEGi College Sarawak’s Leo Club and the General Hospital Sarawak Blood Bank conducted a blood-donation campaign at SEGi Branch Campus (King Centre @ Simpang Tiga) on 7 July 2022 from 9.00am – 1.00pm. This activity was to fulfil part of SEGi’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives and simultaneously to help the blood bank build up adequate availability of safe blood for continuous supply and address the problem of blood shortage.

Thirty participants registered, but only twenty were eligible and successfully donated their blood after medical tests and health screening. Fourteen of the donors were SEGi students, while six were SEGi staff and people from the general public. The hospital refused AB type blood as it is over-supplied in blood bank.

Thirty-one SEGi students and two members of the public signed up for organ donation. Organ-donor pledge cards and small gifts were presented upon completion of the sign-up.  The purpose of the organ-donation recruitment drive was to promote awareness of life-saving solid organ transplants.

Representatives from the Lions Club Kota Sentosa also came to support our event. The Lions Club and the hospital both provided food and drinks, while SEGi College Sarawak gave goodie-bags and pens SEGi College, Sarawak.

On 15 July 2022 (Friday), we delivered twelve out of the thirty bags of rice donated All-In-Pastry to the Sarawak Blind Society located at Ong Tiang Swee.
