Twenty-six students from SEGi College Sarawak, representing various programmes, recently participated in an insightful visit to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Complex in Kuching. Led by their lecturers, Hetty Susilawati binti Asmuni and Shahira binti Johan, this “industry into classroom” initiative provided the students with an invaluable opportunity to witness the inner workings of one of Malaysia’s key institutions in the fight against corruption.
The students were given an exclusive tour of several vital areas within the MACC Complex, including the Video Interviewing Room (VIR), Identity Parade Room, and lockup facilities. A major highlight of the visit was the introduction to a state-of-the-art, high-tech surveillance vehicle, the Weststar Maxus V80, which is equipped with advanced systems such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) and a 360-degree camera. This vehicle plays a crucial role in escorting suspects to court under secure conditions.
Before touring these areas, the group received a detailed briefing on the strict security protocols in place within the MACC building. This session was essential to ensure the students understood the safety measures and the limited public access to these highly secure facilities. The briefing also underlined the MACC’s commitment to maintaining integrity in its operations, showcasing the organisation’s high standards in managing corruption cases.
Following the tour, students attended a comprehensive session on the pivotal role of MACC in promoting accountability and fighting corruption in Malaysia. The talk not only covered the organisation’s key functions but also included case studies from MACC Sarawak, offering the students a real-world perspective on how corruption is being combated across the country.
Promoting integrity and combating corruption are critical elements of building a society based on trust, accountability, and transparency. SEGi College Sarawak recognises that these values must be ingrained in students at the higher education level to shape future leaders who are committed to ethical practices. This initiative reinforces SEGi’s dedication to developing graduates who will contribute positively to Malaysia’s fight against corruption.
