Changing the World? It Starts with a Cup of Coffee

The SEGi Leo Club Sarawak energised the campus spirit with the Nescafé Truck Campaign on 10 April 2025, a vibrant collaboration between SEGi College Sarawak and Nestlé Management. From 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, the SEGi Main Campus buzzed with enthusiasm as 500 complimentary cups of Nescafé drinks were served, accompanied by butter buns, spreading smiles and energy among more than 120 participants including SEGi students, staff, Leo members, and members of the public.

This initiative was more than just a refreshing break; it was a commitment to promoting good health and well-being, decent work opportunities, and fostering strong industry partnerships—aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), promoting healthy, energising food and beverage choices is key to improving public health. With Nescafé’s emphasis on responsibly sourced coffee and active lifestyle messaging, the campaign resonated strongly with the SDG 3 objective of encouraging better health practices among youth.

Incorporating SDG 8 principles, the event also exemplified how collaborations between corporations and educational institutions can create meaningful economic engagement opportunities. Nestlé, one of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, employs over 270,000 people globally and actively invests in youth employment initiatives (https://www.nestle.com/creating-shared-value/individuals-and-families/nestle-cares/youth-initiative), making the partnership with SEGi a natural extension of shared values.

Guided by Leo Stephanie Esther Kai Xin Kho and Faculty Advisor Lion Vincent Cheong, the campaign successfully strengthened the bridge between SEGi’s active student community and global industry leaders. The campus was treated not just to free drinks, but to a real-time example of SDG 17 in action—showcasing the power of partnerships in achieving sustainable outcomes.

The morning ended on a high note with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to the Nestlé representative, reinforcing the mutual respect and collaborative success of the initiative. By empowering students to take part in industry-driven activities, SEGi continues to nurture a generation that is health-conscious, socially responsible, and globally connected.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
