Building Future-ready Talent for the Green Economy

On 16 July 2025, students from the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (DIOSH) programme and the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) programme participated in the International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 TalentCorp Collaboration Talk at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The event carried the theme “Energy Next: Youth Journey to the Clean Energy Future” and aimed to inspire young Malaysians while preparing them for the career opportunities emerging in the clean energy sector. Organised by TalentCorp Malaysia together with leading industry partners, the programme offered students meaningful exposure to the evolving world of sustainable energy.

Industry representatives from PETRONAS, Sarawak Energy, Shell, PETROS, ENEOS and Schneider Electric shared insights into Malaysia’s transition toward renewable energy. The sessions highlighted how innovation, technology and a strong safety culture are shaping the nation’s shift toward a cleaner and more responsible energy landscape.

For students from DIOSH and BIT, the experience connected academic learning with Malaysia’s wider sustainability agenda. As the country moves toward a low-carbon future, professionals with strong technical knowledge, environmental awareness and ethical responsibility will play a crucial role in ensuring that progress remains safe, efficient and sustainable.

The talks also reinforced the importance of industry partnerships in helping students prepare for the future of work. Through direct engagement with corporate leaders and policy specialists, participants gained a clearer understanding of the competencies and adaptability needed to thrive in the green economy.

A total of 29 students and 1 staff member attended the event. The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences expressed its appreciation to TalentCorp Malaysia and the IEW 2025 organising committee for giving students access to valuable industry guided learning.

Through initiatives such as this, SEGi continues to strengthen its mission to provide education that is connected, relevant and responsive to the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
