A Sarawak Day Celebration That Went Straight to the Heart

In conjunction with Sarawak Day, the Leo Club of SEGi, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kuching Kota Sentosa, held its highly anticipated Blood Donation Campaign 5.0 at Vivacity Megamall Kuching on 22 July 2025. Themed “Your Blood, Their Second Chance,” the campaign focused on addressing urgent blood shortages while cultivating a culture of compassion and social responsibility among youth and the broader community.

Led by organising chairperson Leo Nichole Lu Zhe Ying, a Diploma in Mass Communication student and current SEGi College Sarawak’s Leo Club President for FY2025–26, the initiative saw 75 registered participants, of which 60 successfully donated blood after passing medical screenings conducted by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). This effort directly supports national and global efforts to ensure access to safe blood—a critical health resource. According to the World Health Organization, blood donation by just 1% of a country’s population can meet its most basic blood requirements.

To create a welcoming and well-managed environment, Leo Club members took charge of registration and refreshments, while medical officers oversaw the donation process with professionalism and care. To show appreciation, 40 packs of chicken rice—sponsored by Authentic Chicken Rice—were provided for SGH officers and Leo volunteers. The event also benefited from strong community support, with sponsorships including 100 bags of 5kg rice, food, beverages, and cash/meal vouchers from multiple local businesses.

This campaign reflects more than just civic duty—it demonstrates SEGi’s ongoing mission to shape students into proactive, ethical, and compassionate leaders. Events like this serve not only as real-world learning platforms, but also as a reminder that young people have the power to lead social change when given the opportunity and trust. With youth-led initiatives addressing real public health challenges, the campaign resonates strongly with the values of Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
