For students preparing for careers in healthcare, learning to care for others begins with recognising the importance of their own well-being. Sometimes, the most meaningful learning happens not in a lecture hall or laboratory, but in moments of rest, connection, and reflection.
On 13 March 2026, the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at SEGi College Sarawak organised a faculty engagement picnic at Pantai Puteri, located at the foot of Mount Santubong in Kuching. The activity brought together 16 students from the Diploma in Health Care, Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), and Certificate in Science programmes, along with two lecturers and DOSH Programme Leader Franklin Awing.
Set against the calming coastal scenery, the outing gave students and staff a much-needed opportunity to pause from academic routines and reconnect with one another. Participants enjoyed games, swimming, shared meals, and conversations by the seaside, creating a relaxed environment that encouraged friendship and faculty unity.
Beyond recreation, the activity carried an important message about health and balance. Outdoor engagement supports physical and mental well-being, helping students reduce stress, recharge emotionally, and return to their studies with renewed focus. This was especially meaningful as students prepared for their upcoming examinations.
The picnic also strengthened social connections across different programmes. In a non-academic setting, students had the opportunity to interact more freely, build peer relationships, and develop a stronger sense of belonging within the faculty community.
Environmental responsibility was also highlighted throughout the activity. Participants were encouraged to appreciate the natural beauty of Pantai Puteri while practising proper waste disposal and avoiding littering. These simple actions reinforced the importance of caring for shared spaces and protecting the environment.
Through initiatives like this, SEGi College Sarawak continues to support holistic student development by creating experiences that nurture well-being, community, and environmental awareness beyond the classroom.
