SEGi recently celebrated a proud milestone as seven final-year students from the Diploma in Information Technology programme took part in the Bengkel AI 4 Belia dan Masyarakat, hosted on 4 May 2025 by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kota Samarahan. As part of their final semester before internships, these students embraced the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Artificial Intelligence while engaging with peers from institutions such as UNIMAS, Swinburne, and UiTM. The workshop served as a collaborative hub of innovation, sparking bold ideas on how AI can be applied to uplift communities and enhance everyday life.
Far from being a purely technical workshop, the sessions were structured to show how AI can serve the greater good. Participants explored real-world applications of machine learning and automation in areas like education, healthcare, and public service. They gained practical exposure to AI tools while also tackling ethical questions and considering how digital solutions can be made more inclusive and accessible. For students on the cusp of joining the workforce, this experience provided a clear sense of AI’s potential in shaping the future—not just for industry, but for society.
Globally, AI is projected to contribute USD 15.7 trillion to the world economy by 2030, and demand for AI talent continues to grow across all sectors. By engaging in interdisciplinary and community-focused workshops, students are better prepared to enter this rapidly evolving field with both skill and social responsibility. It is this balance between innovation and impact that defines future-ready graduates.
SEGi College Sarawak continues to champion education that goes beyond the classroom, fostering curiosity, collaboration, and the practical application of technology. Participation in this workshop demonstrates the institution’s commitment to producing tech-savvy graduates who not only understand code, but also the communities they aim to serve. Through such initiatives, SEGi encourages students to explore, experiment, and evolve alongside the industries they’re preparing to transform.
