SEGi served up more than just knowledge on 11 April 2025, as culinary arts students received an exclusive hands-on session with two of Sarawak’s most respected culinary figures — Chef Abang Abdul Rahman, President of the Kuching Chef Association, and Chef Abdul Aziz Hj Basri, entrepreneur, adviser and former hotelier. As part of the ongoing Industry into Classroom initiative, the event provided a rare opportunity for students to train directly under seasoned professionals and gain real-world culinary insights far beyond the textbook.
The immersive session included guided instruction on classic techniques such as Egg Drop Soup and Chicken with Orange Sauce, with both chefs offering step-by-step coaching and real-time feedback. Students experienced what it truly means to operate at an industry standard, refining their skills and boosting their confidence under the watchful eye of respected culinary mentors. Beyond the recipes, what was served that day was a healthy dose of discipline, precision, and inspiration — the kind of mentorship that elevates learning from routine to remarkable.
Globally, the hospitality and food services sector employs over 292 million people and continues to grow rapidly, particularly in Asia-Pacific regions. As the industry evolves, so must the education that feeds it. This is why SEGi College Sarawak integrates mentorship, practical training, and industry exposure into its curriculum — ensuring graduates are not only employable but adaptable and desirable to future employers.
These initiatives also reflect a commitment to sustainable education practices, fostering professional development, lifelong learning, and skills transfer through collaborative knowledge-sharing. Events like this help build stronger partnerships between education providers and industry stakeholders, in line with global efforts to create more inclusive, future-ready learning ecosystems.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
