SEGi students took centre stage at Tadika St. Faith’s 35th Anniversary Dinner, demonstrating their expertise and adaptability in event production. Held on 16 November 2024 at SJK Chung Hua No. 2, the celebration was a milestone for the kindergarten, and the SEGi Broadcast Club played a crucial role in ensuring its success. From stage management and photography to public address (PA) system operations, the students showcased their technical proficiency while gaining invaluable hands-on experience.
A team of six students from diverse academic backgrounds, including Mass Communication, Creative Multimedia, Psychology, and Early Years Education, took on key responsibilities at the event. Their participation went beyond technical execution; it was an immersive learning opportunity that equipped them with essential leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills. According to the World Economic Forum, 75% of employers value hands-on experience as much as formal education, making events like these essential for career preparedness.
Beyond professional growth, this initiative reinforced the importance of community engagement and collaboration. By supporting an event that honoured early childhood education, the students contributed to Quality Education (SDG 4), recognising that early learning lays the foundation for lifelong success. Studies by UNESCO highlight that children who receive quality early education are more likely to excel academically and socially, further emphasising the significance of this celebration.
With their expertise in event production, the Broadcast Club also exemplified Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) by integrating creative media and technical support to enhance the event experience. As the world shifts towards a digital and media-driven landscape, skills in multimedia production, audience engagement, and live event management are becoming indispensable assets in the workforce. The club’s ability to seamlessly execute a high-profile event reflects the growing demand for versatile, media-savvy professionals.
The students’ contribution to this event also aligns with Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) by fostering strong relationships between academic institutions and the community. Collaborations like these create mutually beneficial opportunities, where students gain practical knowledge, and organisations receive technical expertise to elevate their events. This reinforces the value of experiential learning, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.
By successfully managing one of the most significant celebrations in Tadika St. Faith’s history, the students demonstrated their ability to adapt, innovate, and lead in high-pressure environments. Their dedication to excellence, teamwork, and professional growth is a testament to the high calibre of graduates being nurtured. As experiential learning becomes increasingly vital in shaping career-ready professionals, initiatives like these solidify SEGi College Penang’s role in developing future industry leaders.
