SEGi is buzzing with international exchange activities, showcasing the power of cultural connections and global learning. As part of the SEGi Student Global Mobility Exchange programme, 12 students from Korea have embarked on an immersive journey in Sarawak. From September to December 2024, these students are diving into the region’s vibrant cultural traditions while pursuing their studies in Hospitality and Tourism Management. This exchange reflects a commitment to nurturing globally minded graduates ready to make an impact in a connected world.
The enriching experiences extend beyond Sarawak. SEGi College Sarawak’s students recently travelled to Andong, Korea, alongside peers from Kyrgyzstan, where they explored the cultural richness of Korea. From tasting the famous Andong Jjimdak to enjoying the captivating Hahoe Pyolsin-gut performance, they experienced the heart of Korean traditions. Facilitated by Keimyung University in Daegu, this cultural exchange deepened their understanding of the interconnectedness of heritage and education.
Keimyung College University (KMCU) students are also making their mark in Sarawak, bringing the warmth of South Korea’s Chuseok celebrations to SEGi. Through traditional dumpling-making and sharing festive customs, these students have highlighted the value of cultural exchange in building friendships and fostering understanding. The event has become a platform for students to learn, share, and appreciate the beauty of diversity.
These exchange programmes are in line with global trends in education. According to UNESCO, the number of students involved in international exchanges has increased by over 75% in the past decade, demonstrating the growing importance of cross-cultural learning. Such initiatives contribute to the development of adaptable, culturally competent individuals who can thrive in today’s interconnected society.
These efforts embody SEGi’s dedication to advancing quality education and cultural understanding. By offering students the chance to participate in these programmes, SEGi helps them develop critical global perspectives while contributing to the shared goal of sustainable development. The experiences gained through such exchanges will empower students to become leaders capable of addressing complex global challenges.
