SEGi College Sarawak students recently had a unique opportunity to engage directly with industry leaders in the digital media landscape through an educational visit to Betapuru Digital Studio on September 20, 2024.
Seventeen students from the Creative Multimedia programme gained invaluable hands-on exposure to the latest animation and virtual reality (VR) technologies. This visit aligns with SEGi’s ongoing mission to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry applications, preparing students for future challenges in the creative industries.
Led by Ayden Lim, Chief Operating Officer at Betapuru Digital Studio, the session offered a deep dive into the advanced tools used in modern multimedia production. Lim showcased the studio’s use of Reallusion software, including Character Creator and iClone, both integral to creating dynamic 3D character animations. The students witnessed how these tools enhance production capabilities, making character design and real-time animation more efficient. Additionally, the introduction to the studio’s cutting-edge VR development projects gave students a glimpse into how immersive experiences are crafted, further expanding their understanding of the future of digital media.
This visit not only allowed students to observe the inner workings of a leading digital studio but also gave them a clearer perspective on how emerging technologies, like VR and animation software, are transforming the multimedia industry. As noted by their lecturers, the hands-on experience provided during this visit is instrumental in solidifying students’ understanding of theoretical concepts learned in class, preparing them for successful careers in the evolving digital economy.
