SEGians Explore 3D Animation and VR in Cutting-Edge Studio Visit

On 20 September 2024, 17 students from SEGi College Sarawak’s Creative Multimedia programme took part in an enriching educational trip to Betapuru Digital Studio. The trip provided students with hands-on industry exposure, specifically in the fields of 3D animation and virtual reality (VR) development. Accompanied by lecturers Yeeni Ayu Rosita and Nancy Kissam, the students gained valuable insights into the cutting-edge tools and practices shaping the creative multimedia industry today.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to engage with Tc. Ayden Lim, Chief Operating Officer of Betapuru Digital Studio, HRDC Accredited Trainer, and Reallusion Certified Trainer. He demonstrated the use of Reallusion software, including Character Creator and iClone, which are pivotal to the studio’s workflow. Students were introduced to the process of character design, rigging, and real-time animation, gaining a firsthand understanding of how these technologies streamline production and enhance creative output in today’s fast-paced multimedia landscape.

In addition to the software demonstrations, the students explored Betapuru Digital Studio’s work in Virtual Reality. The VR segment offered an exciting look at how immersive experiences are crafted, providing students with invaluable insights into the future of multimedia production. As the global VR market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15.0% from 2023 to 2030, this knowledge is crucial for students entering the creative industry, which is increasingly embracing VR as part of its storytelling tools.

This trip underscores SEGi College Sarawak’s commitment to preparing its students for success in the rapidly evolving multimedia industry. By connecting theoretical learning with practical application, students are empowered to stay ahead of technological advancements and industry trends. The mentorship from experienced professionals such as Tc. Ayden Lim, combined with guidance from passionate lecturers like Yeeni Ayu Rosita, is key to nurturing the next generation of creative talent.
