SEGi College Sarawak’s Diploma in Law students recently had a unique opportunity to network with esteemed legal professionals during the welcoming reception held in conjunction with the Borneo ADR Week 2024 law conference on 18th July 2024. This event, hosted at the Sheraton Hotel in Kuching, exemplifies SEGi’s commitment to providing students with valuable industry exposure, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
The event was a significant gathering of legal minds, including moderators, speakers, lawyers, court judges, arbitrators, and mediators from various jurisdictions. The reception provided an excellent platform for students to engage directly with professionals from different law-related departments. This experience offered the students insights into the practical aspects of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), which plays a crucial role in providing avenues for resolving disputes outside of court proceedings.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan, a retired Federal Court Judge and a prominent figure in the legal community. Her interaction with the students and the SEGi law lecturer, Jonathan Tan, was both inspiring and educational. The students were able to gain firsthand knowledge from Dato’ Mary Lim, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Protem Committee for the Court of Arbitration at the Asian International Arbitration Centre and the Deputy President of the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM).
The evening concluded with a group photograph with Dato’ Mary Lim and other executive members of the ICM, creating a memorable experience for the students. This networking event not only enriched the students’ understanding of the legal profession but also reinforced SEGi College Sarawak’s role in preparing students for successful careers in law.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): SDG 4 (Quality Education) SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions)
