Future-ready education begins with early, intentional preparation — and on 30 April 2025, SEGi’s Department of Information Technology proved just that. Through the “Workshop: Project Proposal Kickoff – A Briefing on Key Strategies,” final-year Diploma in IT students were given a head start in designing impactful, real-world solutions. Organised just before the semester break, the workshop empowered students to spend their break not winding down, but building up their ideas for capstone success.
Led by experienced SEGi lecturers, the workshop delivered a strategic two-part session. Anis Nazhirah binti Mohd Zahari opened with a compelling keynote on “SDG & STEM-Based Innovation in IT Projects”, urging students to consider global impact and responsible tech development from day one. In the second session, Mohd Amizar bin Abdul Majid guided students through the practicalities of structuring a high-quality project proposal — from choosing relevant topics to aligning their work with real-world tech trends and societal needs.
This initiative was more than a briefing — it was a call to action. By helping students define their project pathways early, SEGi instils not just academic preparedness but critical thinking, innovation, and strategic planning. With the UN reporting that 70% of youth lack access to sufficient digital education and innovation exposure in developing nations, this kind of workshop fills a critical gap — ensuring SEGi College Penang’s students are equipped to rise above the average and become contributors to global digital advancement.
With a strong focus on aligning proposals to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the session encouraged students to think beyond code and functionality, challenging them to develop projects that respond to climate change, education inequality, health access, and more. This SDG-infused thinking ensures that students not only graduate with skills, but with a mindset built for purpose and impact.
The Department’s proactive approach in conducting this workshop before the break gave students the clarity and structure needed to hit the ground running. By equipping future tech professionals to plan, innovate, and think sustainably, SEGi continues to reinforce its position as a leader in purpose-driven education.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
SDG 13 – Climate Action
