On 16 April 2025, SEGi College Penang’s Department of Information Technology elevated student innovation to industry level through a Final Year Project (FYP) showcase held at Kode Digital. The event saw final-year Diploma in IT students present cutting-edge system solutions to a panel of industry professionals, including programmers, UI/UX designers, testers, and project directors from one of Penang’s leading tech firms.
The showcased projects spanned key areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), web applications, and digital solutions rooted in IR 4.0 technologies. Designed to solve real-world problems for actual stakeholders, the systems reflected deep industry relevance and the ability to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical execution. The event provided students with the rare opportunity to receive first-hand critique from working professionals while demonstrating their capacity to deliver deployable tech products.
The panel’s feedback was resoundingly positive. Xian, Project Director at Kode Digital, described the students’ work as “degree-level quality,” noting that their project outcomes exceeded expectations for diploma students. The jury was particularly impressed by the students’ grasp of user-centred design, client engagement, and their ability to build responsive, intuitive platforms ready for real-world implementation.
Beyond technical skills, many of the showcased projects were aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on innovation, inclusivity, and responsible digital practices. From platforms that support accessibility to systems that promote responsible consumption through digital tracking, these student-driven innovations reflected global values embedded into SEGi’s teaching philosophy. According to the United Nations, innovation and technology play a central role in achieving over 70% of the SDG targets—and SEGi students are actively contributing to that mission.
This collaboration with Kode Digital also created new bridges for future talent development, including internship pathways and mentorship opportunities. It further highlighted the importance of industry-academic partnerships in preparing graduates to be job-ready, agile, and future-focused. With Malaysia’s digital economy expected to contribute 25.5% to GDP by 2025, nurturing industry-ready graduates is more crucial than ever.
The success of this FYP showcase is a strong affirmation of SEGi’s commitment to cultivating tech-savvy, socially aware graduates who are prepared to lead in a digital-first world. It was more than just a presentation—it was a celebration of future innovators ready to shape the next chapter of Malaysia’s digital transformation.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
