SEGi College Penang joined 2,000 delegates from across the globe in participating in the World Research Travel Conference (WRTC) 2024, held on 5 and 6 November at the Penang SPICE Convention Centre. Accompanied by faculty members, degree students took part in Asia’s first international conference dedicated to research travel, focusing on education reform, cultural exchange, and sustainable growth in the research tourism sector.
Organised by the World Research Tourism Organisation (WRTO) and supported by MyCEB and PCEB, the conference was centred around the theme “Opportunities, Synergies, and Sustainability of Research Travel.” Delegates engaged in keynote sessions, forums, business matching, and cultural highlights like the Malaysian Gourmet Night and the Research Travel Night Gala Dinner.
Research travel integrates education with cultural immersion, offering a transformative learning approach. By promoting knowledge transfer and innovative educational practices, it fosters cross-cultural understanding and contributes to sustainable tourism development. SEGi’s participation reflects its commitment to equipping students with global perspectives and practical experiences to excel in the tourism and education industries.
The WRTC aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. The event demonstrated how research travel serves as a key driver for economic and cultural advancement while supporting sustainable practices.
