SEGi is proud to extend its heartfelt congratulations to the winners of the YouTube Advertising Challenge, a remarkable showcase of students’ digital marketing prowess held on 31 July 2023. The event not only highlighted the students’ exceptional talents but also provided them with valuable practical experiences essential for their future careers.

In the context of their DDM2044 (Search Engine Optimisation) course, the students pursuing the Diploma in Digital Marketing (DIDM) were put to the test. Guided by their subject lecturer and SEGian Care Club advisor, Patricia Wee, they embarked on a journey to create unique, engaging, and captivating video advertisements hosted on the YouTube platform.

The winning teams took on the challenge with fervour, focusing their efforts on promoting two distinct brands: Jo Gourmand, a French-inspired café in Penang, and Dorstyle, a well-known chain of fashion retail stores across Malaysia. Both teams demonstrated exceptional creativity and audience-centred strategies, resulting in the development of captivating advertising videos that resonated with viewers.

In an era where online advertising has become the linchpin of marketing strategies, platforms like Google, TikTok, and YouTube have emerged as powerful tools to reach local and international audiences. YouTube, in particular, boasts an impressive online community of 246 million subscribers, making it a preferred choice for businesses seeking to maximise their digital outreach.

Jo Gourmand, nestled in the heart of Penang, offers a modern and Instagram-worthy café experience. Located in an area famous for its international tourist spots, including the Georgetown UNESCO Heritage site, hawker food, and pristine beaches, Jo Gourmand stands out with its delightful menu, friendly staff, and an enticing selection of cakes, including the famous watermelon cake. Notably, they serve their unique coffee blend, JO’s Blends, adding to their appeal.

On the other hand, DOR Style Fashion Store has been a Malaysian establishment since 2012 and has grown into a highly regarded brand in the country. Their range includes jeans, men’s formal wear, casual shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, and T-shirts. With a focus on smart-casual clothing and a commitment to using high-quality materials for comfort and style, they have also expanded into women’s casual wear. Their outlets are conveniently located in prominent malls such as Queensbay and Aeon.

The commercial landscape is rapidly evolving, with industries embracing emerging technologies like digitisation and robotics. Marketing, too, is undergoing a transformative shift, demanding not just an understanding of traditional marketing concepts but also proficiency in e-commerce technologies prevalent in the online realm.
